The U.S. has passed Japan as the third largest target market of Chinese tea in the first quarter this year. They sold 5572 tons to the U.S. That’s up 19.6% while Japan’s purchasing of Chinese tea was down 14.3%.
The rest of the article that is our source today gave information about Chinese tea exports falling slightly due to problems with market access to Europe and Japan. Maybe that’s why the U.S. bypassed Japan for Chinese tea. There was no discussion as to why this is happening. Also mentioned for this slight fall in exports is “poor awareness of brand establishment among producers.”
