Twinings Tea with New Spokesperson?

Word from England has it that Twinings Tea is in talks with Lady Gaga’s people concerning her endorsing their product. Twinings Tea has been around for quite a while – since about 1706 and is one of the first companies to bring the new drink to England. Amazing how fast it became the national drink.

This is what may make it seem old hat though our next news item would suggest this is not so. However, in order to market their tea to a new generation, they began talks with Lady Gaga. Apparently she has a thing for tea and teacups. In fact, the source of our news here has a picture of her with a very lovely teacup and saucer. I have to say her outfit isn’t the most outrageous I’ve seen her in either.

Do you think if Twinings Tea succeeds in having her as their new spokesperson, it will bring in a new group of customers? Well, maybe if that doesn’t work, the health benefits of tea will.

Tea Making a Comeback in the U.S.?

As tea lovers we know that tea is a great drink. Now many Americans are joining the tea sippers. Sales of tea are up to $7,300,000,000 as of 2009 and the number of tea rooms and specialty stores have grown from 240 to 2400. That’s a big leap over the last ten years.

Our source for this news, the Orlando Sentinel, cites the health benefits of tea as one reason for this growing trend. They listed the findings from a UCLA study last year that drinking three or more cups of green or black tea can reduce the risk of stroke as one such health benefit.

A couple of their quotes even talk about how enjoying a cup of tea can help you relax. And we all know how reducing our stress can be beneficial to our health.

Reduce Ovarian Cancer with Tea

In a study by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Brisbane, Australia published in May 2010, the researchers came to the conclusion that a hypothesis that drinking tea every day reduces the risk of ovarian cancer is supported. According to the data they went through any tea drinking helps but drinking four cups or more is the best.

And it doesn’t matter what kind of tea you drink. However, the data presented, as compared to those who don’t drink tea, women who drank black tea had the best odds ratios followed by green tea and then herbal tea. Then again the study leader, Dr. Nagle, stated that the study “…suggests that drinking one or more cups green tea per day may reduce your risk of developing ovarian cancer by 40%.”.

Tea Has Anti Aging Effects

Everyone knows your mental abilities decline as you get older. Phooey! However, findings that were presented at the International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease 2010 tell us that in people over 65, drinking tea has positive affects on your brain.

Those who drank tea regularly had a 17 – 37% less cognitive decline when compared to people who don’t drink it. WooHoo! I drink it every day so sounds good to me. If I’m reading this article http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/new-data-suggest-regular-tea-drinking-may-protect-against-cognitive-decline-98227754.html correctly, the ones who got the 37% were actually the ones who drank it one to four times a week and not those who drank it more than 5 times a week. Oh, well. It has other great health benefits too.

Green tea may protect against breast cancer

Regular consumption of green tea may reduce a woman’s risk of breast cancer by about 12 per cent, according to a new study from the US and China.
