Tea Reduces Risk of Stroke
Heard this on the news yesterday and found a source which gave a very short synopsis as a result of a Swedish study. Seems these Swedish researchers studied male smokers and the effect that drinking coffee and tea had on reducing their risk of stroke.
The news report I heard claimed that drinking 6 cups of coffee or 2 cups of tea a day reduced the risk of stroke. The synopsis said 8 cups of coffee or 2 cups of tea a day. It reduced the risk by 22%. Not bad in smokers.
Although a come on to the TV story mentioned caffeine, within the news report itself, it said this was due to the antioxidants found in the two beverages. Being bone-e-fi-dy tea drinkers here, we know that tea has lots more of all the good stuff than coffee…and lower caffeine too. Even more so on the less caffeine for tea when you are drinking so many less cups a day.
The source says the researchers want to do a study concerning women and non smokers as well. I should think so. We know that most studies are done on men. It’ll be nice to see that the power of tea in reducing strokes will translate for women as well.
